Why on earth would you be sorry to say you were anti-war? Wars were and still are a calamity for all involved.
It seems in character, to me, for Lillian-with-hindsight to wish she had supported the US entering WW2. By the 1980s, it was really rare to talk to anyone who would admit they had opposed the US entering WW2.
